Fillings

This is the procedure that is most often done in the dental office. In our office we do composite based fillings 99% of the time. These are the white fillings that come in various shades that will match the color of your existing tooth. The size of the filling depends on the number of surfaces in which the decay is present. Decay is seen by oral examination and x-rays.

Crowns

A crown is a type of dental restoration which completely caps or encircles a tooth or dental implant and is typically bonded to the tooth using a dental cement. Crowns can be made from many materials, which are usually fabricated using indirect methods. Crowns are often used to improve the strength or appearance of teeth.

Fixed Partial Dentures (FPD)

This procedure commonly referred to as a "bridge" is a way to replace a missing tooth with a fixed prosthesis. During this procedure the teeth on both sides of the area where the tooth is missing are prepared for a crown. The two crowns have a crown attached to them to replace the missing tooth. This is a very good method for replacing a single or multiple teeth that are close together with a prosthesis that does not come in and out of the mouth.

Bridges are used to prevent

• Shifting of the teeth that can lead to bite (occlusion) problems

• Shifting of teeth that can lead to TMJ problems

• Shifting of teeth that can result in periodontal problems

• Problems with mastication or chewing

Endodontic Therapy / Root Canal

This treatment is commonly referred to as a root canal. During this procedure an infected nerve and pulp are removed from the tooth and replaced with a material called gutta purcha. The advantage of endodontic therapy is that the tooth remains in the dentition. Generally a tooth will need a crown following endodontic treatment.

Implants

Dental implants are small titanium screws which are placed into the maxilla or mandible (the bone making up the lower and upper jaws). These are indicated in the replacement of one to multiple teeth or in complete upper and lower dentures. A dental implant is placed in the missing tooth area and allowed to integrate into the bone for 4-6 months. Following integration into the bone a crown is placed on the implant.

Veneers

Veneers are the choice of treatment during most cosmetic procedures. These prostheses are generally made of all porcelain which gives the best cosmetic appearance. Unlike a crown, a veneer does not encircle the entire tooth.

A veneer generally covers the outer and incisal surfaces of the tooth. This is a very conservative way for

maximum aesthetics.

Common problems Veneers are used for

• Spaces between teeth

• Broken or cracked teeth

• Stained or discolored teeth

• Crooked or misshaped teeth

Whitening

In the world of whitening there are many different options. In our office we provide the take home trays and whitening gels. With this system you place a bleaching gel in a custom fit tray that you place in your mouth for 15 minutes a night. This is a very easy and effective method for whitening.
